Diving in Mabul and Sipadan

The only way to get there is to take a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Semporna. The airport is called Tawau. Its expensive to get here. See if you can use miles.

Delhi to Semporna and back was INR 60,000 in the summer of 2018. It got as low as INR 33000 in Nov 2018 using Price Graph on Google Flights.

It is often cheaper to fly into Kota Kinabalu and then take the USD 40 flight to Tawau and back.

What to do in Mabul and Sipadan

Diving and snorkelling in Mabul and Sipadan is out of this world. Mabul probably has the best macro diving in the world. Sipadan is a sea mount and you can see sharks on every dive. White tip, Nurse Sharks abound.

So where is mabul and how can you get there?

Mabul is on the sarawak island in Malaysia. The same island where you’ll find Kota kinabalu.

You can only get there by malaysian airlines from either kota kinabalu or from Kuala lumpur.

The Mabul island resort is very convenient for diving and snorkelling. Snorkelling even just off the Jetty is spectacular.

You can see schools of jack fish in the artificial reef just off the Jetty or tones of pipefish, trumpet fish, sea urchins, trevailly, parrotfish, sea snakes, etc in high density.

Turtle hatchery in Mabul

There is an amazing turtle hatchery in Mabul and we saw them releasing hundreds of baby turtles into the ocean on morning. It was an amazing sight. The kids loved every minute of it.
