How to do Goa
There are many ways to do Goa.
Stay in the north if you like crowds and want to be in easy each of lots of restaurants and discos.
Stay in the South if you value solitude and can be with yourself. North Goa is crowded and not fun in our opinion. All beaches are dirty and the area is too commercialised.
We suggest the south goa or really south of goa depending on how isolated you want to be.
Where to stay in Goa
Option 1: Stay in Cavelossim at the Leela Goa – Super comfortable and luxurious
Option 2: Stay in Palolem: Thatched hut and simple living
you will most likely arrive at Dabolim Aiport.
Take a cab straight to Cavelossim. 38kms will take 1 hour in no traffic.
A Cab to Palolem will take almost two hours and you should not do this in the evening.
How to get around Goa
Here are your options:
- Rent a car – Easier for Indian residents than foreigners
- Rent a scooter/bike – Generally easy for everyone.
- Get your hotel to pick you up – More expensive but recommended.
- Cab around – No really an option
India does not consider foreign licenses valid. You can apply for an international driver’s license in your home country if you are in India on a short-term assignment for less than a year.
It is relatively easy to just rent right outside the airport. There are touts everywhere. You can also get your car rental company to meet you at the airport.
Seeing Cavelossim
Cavelossim has a nice long beach that is not crowded. It is about 1 hour drive from Goa’s airport. Spend 3-5 day at the Leela goa if you have the time. It is super relaxing and well appointed. Even if the afternoons are hot, the evening are pleasant and the beach shacks at Cavelossim serve cold beer and other spirits to keep you in high spirits.
The Leela goa has many activities and is a huge property. You can run at the beach of walk along the acres and acres of property owned by the Leela.

Moving on to Palolem
What to do in Palolem
Palolem in our opinion is the most beautiful beach in goa. It is crescent shaped and quiet. The have the famous silent disco on the beach where people dance wearing headphones. It’s crazy to see but very much worth it.

While the hotels in Palolem are not great, it in itself is a nice place, close to nature.
There is diving in north goa but its avoidable. The water is not clear. So skip it.
