Why visit the Lakshadweep Islands
Lakshadweep is the Maldives of India.Minicoy is just 100kms from the northern most Maldivian Islands.
The diving is amazing. You can see nurse sharks, Stingrays, Turtles and soft coral around Kadmat, Bangaram and Thinnakara.
Bioluminescent Phytoplankton abound in Lakshadweep which makes nights at the beach magical especially in Bangaram, Kadmat at Thinnakara.
The islands are undeveloped and almost all tourism is controlled by SPORT – a government body.
One week Itinerary for Lakshadweep
You almost have to book with SPORT because they control the best places to stay on all the islands.
One week in Lakshadweep
Arrive by air to Agatti(AGX) from Kochi(COK). Try to get out of Agatti as soon as possible. Its a gateway island and does not have much to see.
There is only one flight to and from Agatti to Kochi. It leaves at 8AM in the morning. This means that you will most likely have to spend the night in Kochi on your way to Agatti. This is not a bad thing! Kochi – especially fort kochi area is worth spending time at on your way to Agatti.
Spend 4 nights in Bangaram and two nights in Thinnakara. If you can’t find a spot in Bangaram, go to Thinnakara and spend 5 days there. Thinnakara is our view is a hidden gem. You can participate in all water sports in Bangaram from Thinakara.
If you can’t find a place at Bangaram or Thinnakara, spend 5 days in Kadmat. The diving is great there too and the island resort is better equipped than both Bangaram or Thinnakara.
How to book accomodation in Lakshadweep
SPORT (Society for promotion of nature tourism and sports) is the only organization permitted to run tourist activities on the Lakshadweep islands. This is why Lakshadweep remains protected and undeveloped.
Booking through SPORT is challenging but dont fall for any other travel agent. They just dont have the access that SPORT has.

“Foreign nationals, only with “tourist visa” will be permitted to Lakshadweep islands”
The best itinerary includes a stop over in Kochi so that you can see both Kerala and Lakshadweep in one trip. So add on another week in Kerala to see Kochi, Kumarakom and the Eravikulam National Park from Munnar.
