Why You Should Stay at The Oberoi Hotel, New Delhi

This hotel is owned and operated by The Oberoi Group, which is a luxury hotel group with its head office in Delhi. The group was founded in 1934. It now has 31 luxury hotels and two river cruise ships in six countries under its flagship-Oberoi Hotels & Resorts and Trident Brands.

Being the first and undoubtedly the favorite of the Delhi-based founders of the Oberoi chain, this beautiful hotel was recently upgraded. It was reopened to the public in January 2018 after 600 crore INR (roughly 85 million USD) worth of renovations. Some of the major changes include guest rooms with spacious baths, 220 rooms instead of the previous 283, indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools. The hotel incorporated an indoor air purification system which will prevent the entry of harmful air particles into the building, following New Delhi’s increasing pollution issues.

History of The Oberoi Hotel, New Delhi

The Oberoi, New Delhi, initially opened for the public in 1965. It is set in the city center and overlooks the 16th-century built garden tomb of Emperor Humayun which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi laid the foundation of The Oberoi Group in 1934. While the Delhi location was the fourth hotel in the company’s portfolio, it was the first that he actually had built from the ground up. Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi’s son is the company’s current executive chairman.

Back when it was opened, the Oberoi was one of a kind. It claims to have been the first property in the country to offer 24-hour room service and butler service as well as have a 24-hour restaurant. Soon after opening, it became known as the fanciest hotel India had ever had.

Innumerable Indian and international gems have stayed at the property over the course of its more than half-century existence.
